ShopBuyZones says it offers “honest buying guides built from real research.” This page explains exactly what that means: how we pick products, what we check, what we don’t do, and how we earn money. If anything here ever stops being true, we’ll update this page.
Researched vs. Tested: Our Honest Label
ShopBuyZones is run by one person. We do not have a testing lab, and most products on this site have not been physically tested by us. Our picks are researched: built from specifications, verified buyer reviews, expert sources and price history.
If we have personally used a product, we’ll say so clearly in the review. If a page doesn’t say “we used this,” assume it’s a researched pick.
How We Choose a Product (Our 7 Checks)
- It solves a real problem. We start with what shoppers actually need (for example, “a warm drink that stays warm at my desk”), not with what a brand wants to sell.
- Strong ratings from lots of real buyers. We generally look for 4.2 stars or higher from hundreds or thousands of reviews. A 5-star product with 12 reviews doesn’t impress us.
- We read the bad reviews. The 1- to 3-star reviews show the problems that matter: breaking after a month, sizing issues, poor customer service. If a pattern shows up, the product doesn’t make the list.
- The specs match the promise. We compare size, materials, power, warranty and compatibility against what the listing claims.
- Fair price, checked on a date. We note the price and the date we checked it. Prices change, so every product page shows when prices were last checked.
- Easy returns and a real seller. We favor products sold or shipped by major retailers with clear return policies.
- Safety first. For anything that plugs in, heats up or is meant for kids, we favor established brands and built-in safety features (like tip-over and overheat shut-off), and we skip listings that raise safety doubts.
How We Handle Retailers
- Most product links today go to Amazon, because it’s where the widest range of products and reviews are. We also link to eBay and other partner stores when they’re a better fit.
- For bulk and custom business orders, we may point to wholesale marketplaces, and we explain the extra steps and risks that come with them.
- We’re working toward showing more than one store for popular products, so you can compare prices in one place.
What We Promise
- No paid placement. No brand can pay to be included, ranked higher or described more kindly.
- We include drawbacks. Where a product has a real weakness, we say so, and some guides include “one to skip.”
- Real product photos only. We show the actual product image from the retailer, never a stock photo standing in for it.
- Guides without products, too. Many of our articles, like travel refund rights or spotting fake stores, have no product links at all. They’re here to help you shop smarter.
How We Make Money
When you buy through some of our links, the retailer may pay us a small commission at no extra cost to you. That commission never decides what we recommend. You can read more on our About page.
Keeping Pages Up to Date
Prices, stock and product versions change constantly. We re-check product pages regularly, update the “prices checked” date when we do, and replace products that go out of stock or slip in quality. Seasonal pages, like our holiday guides, are refreshed each season.
